New Technology Sponsor

26 Jan

Check out our newest sponsor: 360 Mobility Solutions, LLC.  We will be doing a little in-flight testing of their amazing Sleeve 360 –a wearable rotating iPad 2 case.  It gets pretty windy in the J3 cockpit with the door and window open–so we are hoping this innovative holder will prevent the iPad 2 from taking an unplanned EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity) along the route.  Watch the blog for a review and some video of the pilots using it on the flight.

Circumnavigator to Join Us!

04 Dec

What could be better than one antique J3 in the sky flying to all of Ohio’s counties this spring for the 75th Anniversary of the Piper Cub?  Two Cubs!  We are very pleased to announce that pilot Ron Siwik expects to join Joe Murray on the flight this spring in a second Piper Cub.  Siwik is a former U.S. military flight surgeon who served in Vietnam.  He has been flying for more than 43 years and holds an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and also Flight Instructor (CFII) ratings in single- and multi-engine airplanes, seaplanes and helicopters.  He is an accomplished aerobatics pilot who flies a Pitts Special S1 single-seat biplane.  In 2008, Siwik flew a Beechcraft Bonanza on a remarkable, 24,604-mile, around-the-world solo flight.    Stay tuned for more in coming weeks.

Sign the Fabric

18 Nov

When we land in each county, we’ll  need a representative to verify our arrival.  We’ll ask someone present at the airfield to sign and date a section of aircraft fabric that we’ll  be carrying on board during the flight.

Flight sponsors and scholarship contributors will also be asked to sign.  When the flight is complete, the signatures will become part of the J3’s historical record and the fabric will be used to recover the airplane to keep it flying for another generation.
